PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a contour of a divided area in a video image to be effectively traced by repeating the operation of each means up to a designated adjacent picture element is in matching with a selected tracing picture element, supplying each position information of each tracing picture element to the device, and making the contour tracing operation to a closed contour loop complete. SOLUTION: A luminance level of a tracing picture element 36 and each luminance level of adjacent picture elements 52, 54, 56, 58 at each of comparators 82, 84, 86, 88 and the operation of each unit is repeated up to any of the adjacent picture elements 52, 54, 56, 58 having a same luminance level as a luminance level of the tracing picture element 36. Then each of the comparators 82, 84, 86, 88 gives a tracing direction selection signal to a tracing direction generator 90, which supplies horizontal/vertical position information of the tracing picture element 36 to a tracing direction code latch 92 and then the contour tracing operation with respect to the closed contour loop is made complete. |
