PURPOSE: To improve the reliability by registering defective parts as well as a place where a read error should occur due to generation of a T.A. phenomenon of a head in advance and inhibiting the read/write of data. CONSTITUTION: At the time of retrieving and registering a defective part on a magnetic disk medium 1 after assembling the magnetic disk device 5, the device 5 is put in a pressure reducing vessel 6 to reduce pressure. Then, a spindle is rotated, and all cylinders are scanned by a magneto-resistance effect type head 3 so that a data surface as to the whole medium 1 consisting of plural pieces on each cylinder is searched for a defective part by the head 3 disposed thereon, and this sector number, etc., are recorded as position information in the circumferential direction of the found defective part are recorded in a prescribed position on the medium 1. A series of operations of this device 5 is controlled by a drive controller 7. By this method, a read error caused by thermal aspect T.A. that is newly generated in the state of a gap between the head 3 and the medium, used on heights and a lowered floating amt. of the head can thus be prevented. |
