PURPOSE: To obtain a composition excellent in shelf life, sharpness, etc., and useful for silver halide photosensitive materials by carrying out heat treatment of a fine particle composition comprising metal oxide fine particles, gelatin or a polymer in the presence of an epoxy-containing silane coupling agent. CONSTITUTION: This fine particle composition is obtained by carrying out heat treatment of fine particle composition composed of (i) metal oxide fine particles having 10nm to 100μm average particle diameter and (ii) gelatin or a polymer containing an amino group or carboxy group and having 1,000-1,000,000 molecular weight in the presence of (B) an epoxy group-containing silane coupling agent. The composition may also be obtained by reacting the component (i) with the component B and then, reacting the reaction product with the component (ii). The component B is preferably used in an amount of 1mg to 100g based on 1kg component (i). This silver halide photosensitive material can be obtained by including the resultant fine particle composition into a hydrophilic colloid layer containing a silver halide emulsion layer and an emulsion protecting layer on a support.
