PURPOSE: To provide a polarizing element hardly causing phase shift, to provide its production method and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the polarizing element excellent in visual angle characteristic. CONSTITUTION: (1) A polarizing thin film having >=1nm and <=1μm thickness is laminated on a polymer film having an inherent birefringence of <=0.01 and >=-0.01. (2) The polarizing thin film having >=1nm and <=1μm thickness and formed on an oriented fluororesin film is transferred on the polymer film having the inherent birefringence of <=0.01 and >=-0.01. (3) In the liquid crystal display device, the polarizing element is disposed at both outsides of a liquid crystal cell which is constituted so that a liquid crystal having a positive dielectric anisotropy takes a structure in which a long axis of a molecule is almost parallel to the substrate and the long axis of the molecule is within >=90 deg. and <=270 deg. and its helical axis is twisted in a vertical direction to the substrate between a pair of a transparent electrode substrates having an electrode in a state in which voltage is not impressed. |
