PURPOSE: To provide an optically anisotropic film and its production method having a characteristic approximate to a wave length dispersion characteristic and a temp. characteristic of a retardation of a liquid crystal display cell which is combined to use and to provide a liquid crystal display device using the optically anisotropic film and excellent in display characteristic, especially a STN(super twisted nematic) type liquid crystal display or a ECB(electric field controlling birefringence) type liquid crystal display device inexpensively and without a complicated process. CONSTITUTION: In the optically anisotropic film, the value of the retardation of the optically anisotropic body film at 80 deg.C is 60-97% of the value of the retardation at 30 deg.C, and aαvalue defined by general formulaα=RF/RD is over 1.06. In the formula, RF is the value of the retardation measured by a hydrogen F ray (wave length 486nm) and RD is the value of the retardation measured by a sodium D ray (wave length 589nm).
