Mfr. of an active matrix LCD screen panel involves forming first plate (124) rows and columns and address columns (122) in a first transparent conductive layer on a transparent substrate panel (110), a space being left between each address column (122) and the plates (124) of each plate column, and forming address lines (138) and control transistors. The novelty comprises (a) forming an insulation (148) for the address columns (122) and lines (138) and the control transistors, the insulation (148) extending into part of the space around and along the address lines and columns, and (b) forming second plates (158) which are larger than and cover the first plates (124) and which extend up to the insulation (148) of the address columns, the first and second plates forming the conductive capacitor plates of the pixels. Also claimed is a LCD screen plate structure mfd. by the above method.
