PURPOSE: To provide a pulse light source which is easily controlled in pulse repetition frequency, pulse width, and pulse timing. CONSTITUTION: A pulse light source is equipped with two inputs 1a and 1b and two outputs 11a and 11b, two optical waveguides are made to approach each other at several spots where directional couplers 7a to 7b are provided respectively to serve as an optical waveguide 501 between the inputs 1a and 1b and the outputs 11a and 11b. A phase modulator 4 which carries out a phase modulation by an electric signal generator 6 is arranged at one of the inputs 1a, and a laser 2 is disposed at a preceding stage to the phase modulator 4. The two optical waveguides are different from each other in length between the the directional couplers. The waveguides 8a to 8e are set longer than the waveguides 9a to 9e. When electrodes 10a to 10e are provided to the waveguides 8a to 8e, asymmetrical Mach-Zehnder interferometers of five stages connected in series can be obtained. |
