PURPOSE: To provide an ink jet printer capable of suppressing the destruction of a heater layer and the emission inferiority of an ink caused by the irregularity of the heater layer and to adjust the ink jet printer. CONSTITUTION: A heater layer 3 is heated to emit an ink. A power supply means 10 supplies power to the heater layer 3 and a resistance measuring device 19 detects the resistance value of the heater layer 3. A discrimination circuit 15 discriminates whether the resistance of the heater layer 3 becomes a predetermined resistance value or more and a control circuit 14 stops the supply of power from the power supply means 10 to the heater layer 3 on the basis of the discrimination signal 15s from the discrimination circuit.
