PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the temperature distribution based on steam reforming and prolong a battery life by adding a specified metal compound to a catalyst for reforming a carbonaceous gas, steam, and/or carbon dioxide and making the catalyst passive in an internal reforming high temperature type cell. SOLUTION: In a molten carbonate type fuel cell, a carbonaceous gas is mixed with steam and/or carbon dioxide and internally reformed. In this case, metals belonging to the VIII group in a periodic table such as Ni and Ru and carried by a heat resistant material is used as a catalyst. One or more compounds of metals selected from group IA, IB, IIA, IVA, and VA in a periodic table are added to the catalyst and preferably Na2 CO3 , Li2 CO3 , K2 CO3 , Cu(NO3 )2 , or BaCO3 is added. Consequently, the steam-reforming activity of the catalyst is lessened, the endothermic reaction speed is suppressed, and the degree of temperature decrease is lowered. Moreover, the content of the metal of the metal salts to be used as the catalyst is preferably controlled to be 0.1-10 wt.%. The relative activity of the catalyst is high, even for a prescribed time after the operation. |
