PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device with which the occurrence of after-images is entirely obviated or lessened and which has high image quality. CONSTITUTION: The counter voltage in case of actual driving is specified to Vcom0 +ΔVcom or Vcom0 -ΔVcom with respect to the counter voltage Vcom0 at which DC components are minimized under the condition 0<ΔVcom<=0.5Vs when the voltage impressed on liquid crystals between pixel electrodes and counter electrodes is defined as Vs with the liquid crystal display device which executes the adjustment to optimize the Dc components of the voltage impressed on the liquid crystals between the pixel electrodes and the counter electrodes by varying the counter voltage. The occurrence of the after-images in the liquid crystal panel is entirely obviated or is lessened by a relatively simple method of making the influence of the DC voltage components in a longitudinal direction relatively larger than the influence by the DC voltage components in a transverse direction. The liquid crystal display device having the high image quality is thus provided.
