PURPOSE: To prevent the degradation in the amplitude of a reproduced signal by nearly equally separating the light rays in the original polarization direction to ordinary ray and extraordinary rays by an analyzer. CONSTITUTION: The analyzer 7 is formed of an optical member having uniaxial double refraction. The plane on which the return light of the analyzer 7 is made incident is defined as an x-y plane and the direction normal to this plane as a z-axis. The x-y-z coordinate rate xyz at which the optical axis of the return light progresses in the z-x plane and both of the x-component and z- component of the progressing direction of the optical axis of the return light attain positive is defined. θ is defined as the angle formed by the optical axis of the return light and the z-axis, δ as a constant within a range of 44 to 46 deg. and -44 to -46 deg. and α and β are defined as variables independent from each other. At this time, the optical axis of the analyzer 7 is characterize to be lying in the plane parallel with the plane expressed by the equation. The difference in the light intensity of the ordinary rays and extraordinary rays is thereby maximized when the return light rays rotated in the polarization direction are separated to the two kinds of rays by the Kerr effect. The degradation in the amplitude of the reproduced signal is thus averted. |
