PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a granular catalyst, etc., having a definite geometric shape by compression molding powder of such a catalyst, etc., that a specified ratio of the fine pores has a radius equivalent to a peak value of the porosity distribution curve. SOLUTION: Powder of such a catalyst, a support component or their precursor of porosity value that 70 volume % of fine pores have a radius equivalent to the peak value of the porosity distribution curve is compression molded. Granules of the catalyst, the support or the precursor, which have particularly a circular, polygonal or hollow cylindrical shape having a cross-section where many projections exist, remarkable fracture and friction resistant properties and a regular, complicated geometric shape having optimal fine pore size and distribution, can be produced at a high level of productivity. Further 3 wt.% lubricant can be added and dispersed in the bulk of the powder to be molded. Powder of Fe2 (MoO4 )3 and MoO3 is used as the catalyst, alumina as the catalyst support and alkali metal salts, etc., and glycerides of stearic acid, etc., as the lubricant. |
