PURPOSE: To obtain an α-sialon-based sintered body easily sinterable under the normal pressure, composed mainly of α-sialon particles having high hardness and containing a grain boundary phase consisting of an Al2 O3 -R2 O3 material. CONSTITUTION: This sintered α-sialon is composed of >=60wt.% and <97wt.% of α-sialon particles expressed by general formula Yx (Si,Al)12 (O,N)16 ((x) is 0.35-0.60 and >=3wt.% and <40wt.% of a grain boundary phase consisting of an Al2 O3 -Y2 O3 material having an Al2 O3 /Y2 O3 molar ration of 5/7 to 5/3. |
