PURPOSE: To provide the silver halide photographic material capable of obtaining an extremely high-contrast photographic performance exceeding aγvalue of 10 by using a stable developing solution or the direct positive photographic material exhibiting sufficient reversibility even in the case of using a processing solution low in pH. CONSTITUTION: This photographic material contains a hydrazide compound represented by the formula in which R1 is a di- or mono-fluoromethyl groups; R2 is an aliphatic or aromatic or heterocyclic group having a diffusion-resisting group, and when R2 is a substituted phenyl group, its substituent has no aralkyl- amino group; X1 is a substituent; and (m) is an integer of 0-4.
