1353536 Basic xanthenes RIOHARDSONMERRELL Inc 22 July 1971 [10 Dec 1970] 34512/71 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I wherein Z is oxygen or H 2 ; each Y is oxygen or divalent sulphur; each A is a straight or branched alkylene chain of from 2 to 4 carbon atoms and which separates the amino nitrogen and Y by at least two carbon atoms; each R and R<SP>1</SP> are individually selected from hydrogen, lower alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkenyl of from 3 to 6 carbon atoms and having the vinyl unsaturation in other than the 1-position of the alkenyl group, or each set of R and R<SP>1</SP> taken together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached is a saturated monocyclic heterocyclic group such as pyrrolidino, piperidino, morpholino or N-(lower)-alkylpiperazino: provided that when each of the groups are in the 2- and 7-positions and represent #- diethylaminoethoxy, Z does not represent oxygen ; and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reacting a compound of Formula II with a compound Halogen-A-N.R.R 1 . Antiviral compositions in conventional forms for oral or parenteral administration comprise an above novel compound and a carrier therefor. The use of the novel compounds and compositions also form part of the invention. |
