PURPOSE: To reduce the load of a server unit and a transmission line, to reduce the probability of occurrence of the system down and furthermore to improve the overall capability of a client-server system by securing the self-maintenance capability for every client unit to perform its own maintenance. CONSTITUTION: When each of client units 2 is started, the unit 2 diagnoses by itself its operating environment (hardware, software, firmware, etc.). If the abnormality or some change is detected in the unit 2 and it is recoverable, the unit 2 recovers its abnormality or change by itself. On the other hand, the unit 2 can be installed again through a server unit 1 and maintained. If the abnormality or the change is not recoverable, the unit 2 is separated from a LAN circuit 100.
