The prosthesis consists of a shank (1) designed to fit into the medullary canal of a femur, having a shoulder (14) at its upper end equipped with a joint ball. The outer surface of the shoulder is equipped with a detachable wing (19) which can be of variable height, according to requirements, with the top of the wind situated above the level of the portion of the shoulder in line with the axis of the shank. The wing (19) has a lower transverse face shaped to fit against the outer surface of the shoulder, which is generally semi-circular in shape, while the thickness of the wing is basically constant at the top and tapers towards the bottom. It is equipped with a lug (20) designed to engage with a recess in the upper surface of the shoulder and made with a hole for a fixing bolt (16).
