PURPOSE: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of suppressing voltage rising of a multistage igniter. CONSTITUTION: Direct current of a DC power supply unit E is oscillated with transistors Q1, Q2 of an inverter circuit 12 to convert it into a high frequency alternating current, voltage is raised with a multistage igniter 14, high voltage is applied to a high pressure discharge lamp HID to start and light the high pressure discharge lamp HID. When the high pressure discharge lamp HID is regularly started, the voltage of the hip pressure discharge lamp HID does not reach the maximum voltage, a comparator 15 keeps a low level output, a one shot multivibrator 16 is not outputted, and an inverter circuit 12 outputs high frequency with an oscillator 18. When the high pressure discharge lamp HID does not light, the voltage reaches the maximum voltage, the comparator 15 outputs in a high level, the one shot multivibrator 16 outputs for specified time, the oscillator 18 stops, the inverter circuit 12 stops oscillation, the inverter circuit 12 does not output, and output of the multistage igniter 14 is decreased. |
