<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an improved outline approximation method capable of enhancing accuracy and also reducing a general count amount at the time of displaying an outline image by using a polygon approximation and discrete sine transformation. SOLUTION: Outline image data representing an outline of an object which is represented by a video signal is inputted to a polygon approximation block 100, 1st and 2nd error detection blocks 120 and 150 and a curvature count block 160. In the block 100, an outline image is approximated by a polygon approximation method, and polygon approximation of the outline image is performed by using normal approximation algorithm which fits plural line segments to the outline image. A 1st error counted by the block 120 generates discrete sine transformation(DST) factor by undergoing an one-dimensional DST operation in a DST block 125, is quantized by a quantization block 130 and furthermore, is retransformed into a reconstituted DST factor in an inverse quantization block 135. Thereby, approximated outline accuracy can be increased.</p> |
