1281139 Lamps H L WEISS 24 Feb 1971 5297/71 Heading F4R [Also in Division H2] A lamp string L includes a series of spaced socket assemblies A, each socket assembly including a screw type socket S, a case C, preferably of flexible resilient material, e.g. neoprene or other plastics materials and a conductive ground ring R exposed for attachment of a bulb cage B, the ring also protecting the socket from forces that could crush it. Three insulated wires W0, W1 and W2 can extend through the case, three jumper wires 14, 16 and 32 connecting the bared portions of the through wires to the socket S and ring R respectively, the jumper wires being attached to the through wires by, e.g. clamps 20, 22, crimped about the through wires. Grooves G, H, can be provided in the flange port F of case C for trapping moisture which could possibly pass through the seal formed between the resilient flange F and the neck of the bulb. The space 24 between the socket and ring preferably has an outer diameter not more than 1¢ times its inner diameter and the ring R preferably has an axial length not less than half the length of the socket S. The socket assembly can be provided with a suspension tab 10, having a reinforced hole for hanging the assembly on a hook or nail and integrally formed braces 38 and 40, serving to stabilize the flange F. A cage B is attached to a ground ring R by means of a split ring in the cage base 28, the split ring being tightened around the ground ring by a screw 30, thus providing a firm electrical and mechanical contact between the split ring and ground ring.
