PURPOSE: To recognize handwritten characters, including numbers and codes together like an address display, at a high recognition rate. CONSTITUTION: A character recognition processing part 26, when recognizing the address display part of an address, etc., sends temporarily plural listed candidate characters to a logical operation part 27 which is provided as a master. Here, not only the font, etc., of a character is recognized and judged, but also the recognition results of characters before and after it are considered. Namely, a number or '-' comes after a character recognized as a number or '-'. Further, it may be judged that a number is one character precedent to the character recognized as the number or '-'. On the basis of this logic, candidate characters are narrowed down to exclude unnecessary candidate characters, thereby improving the recognition rate. |
