PURPOSE: To provide a hot water storage tank for a hot water storage type water heater in which sufficient strength is obtained without excess deformation or stress concentration by the internal pressure of inner warm water while the degree of freedoms of installation of the tank formed by using a thin steel plate is high. CONSTITUTION: This hot water storage tank 5 comprises a plurality of segments 17 made of pressed products of thin steel plates. Each segment 17 integrally has an expanded part 17a expanded from the thin plate, and a flange 17b extended toward the outside of the part 17a over the entire periphery of the part 17a at the thin plate around the part 17a. The flanges 17b of the segments 17 are collided with each other to be watertightly connected to form the tank 5, the shape of the tank 5 is formed in an elliptical shape at the section of the direction perpendicular to the flange 17b, and the collided surfaces of the flanges 17b are disposed at the long axis position of the elliptical shape.
