PURPOSE: To provide a 1×3 nonequal branching fiber coupler which is changed in the light receiving quantity of an optical fiber at a symmetrical center and optical fibers on both sides and a process for producing this coupler. CONSTITUTION: This 1×3 nonequal branching fiber coupler is made incident with light from the optical fiber 1 existing at the symmetrical center among three pieces of the optical fibers 1 to 3 fusion stretched in parallel. The output light quantity of the optical fiber 1 and the output light quantity of the optical fibers 2, 3 existing on both sides are unequally branched. This process for producing such optical fiber coupler comprises forming a coupling part by aligning three pieces of the optical fibers 1 to 3 in parallel, clamping and pulling the front and rear parts of the parallel aligned parts while heating these parts, then fusing these parts under heating. The light is made incident on the optical fiber existing at the symmetrical center among three pieces of the optical fibers and the exit light from this optical fiber and the remaining arbitrary optical fiber is monitored. The fusion stretching is stopped when the light quantity of two pieces of the optical fibers attains a desired ratio. |
