METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MULTIPOINT COMMUNICATION OF ATM NETWORK

PURPOSE: To enable fast broad-band communication services which are completely free from the influence of restrictions of mutual bands and interference and effectively utilize the band of optical fibers by making an optical communication using different waveforms between a broadcast signal and point-to-point signal. CONSTITUTION: A start coupler 21 is installed in an ATM mode 14 and the broadcast signal is distributed by the start coupler 21 to respective interface packages 17 to 19. At this time, the light wavelength λ2 of the broadcast signal on an output side is different from the light wavelength λ1 of the point-to-point signal, and the signal is multiplexed by optical couplers 22 to 24 installed on the output sides of the packages 17 to 19 and transferred to respective terminal devices 11 to 13. The devices 11 to 13 discriminate between the point-to-point signal and a multipoint signal by wavelength separating devices 25 to 27 and they can be inputted to a signal processor CPU. The subsequent handling of the signals depends upon an application loaded onto the signal processor CPU.
