A method for providing a protective lining, with at least two layers, inside a metallurgical vessel (1) comprises: (a) a series of plates (2) of rigid material are placed inside the vessel (1); (b) a mould former (3) is placed in the vessel (1) to create a moulding space between it and the series of plates (2); (c) the moulding space is filled with a hardenable material (5) to form the wear lining that will come into contact with the molten metal introduced into the vessel (1); (d) the series of plates (2) are removed; and (e) the cavities (6) created by the removal of the series of plates (2) are filled by a material (7) to form a layer in contact with the wear lining (5). The mould former (3) may be removed before or after the removal of the series of plates (2). The mould former (3) may be heated prior to its placement or may incorporate a heating system. |
