PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect defects by moving a tube material or a bar material without rotation in axis direction near an electrodynamic convertor, when diameter of the tube material, etc., is 400mm or larger, then generating ultrasonic wave propagated in circumferential direction of the tube material, etc., with the converter, for analyzing reflected wave and transmitted wave. SOLUTION: Converters are coupled into pairs (W1, W2; W3, W4; W5, W6), and installed to a single converter carrier (11, 11a, 11b), respectively. These converter carriers are assigned on the circumference with constant angle intervals, and, one set of converters out of all converter carriers (W1, W3, W5) and the other set of converters (W2, W4, W6) are alternately used as transmitters or receivers. The reflected waves and transmitted waves from a single defect are received with multiple converters, and then outputs of these multiple converters are analyzed for identifying a defect position. |
