Distributing wound yarn onto friction driven bobbins using yarn guides - using varying bobbin-roller contact lines to eliminate yarn ribbing effects

The winding machine bobbin is driven by a constant speed drive roller in association with a reciprocating linear yarn guide. The bobbin/roller driving contact line is axially shifted towards the major/min. axis of the conical element by varying the inclination of the bobbin w.r.t. the driven roller. PREFERRED - The constant speed drive roller (9) friction drives the bobbin (1) with yarn (12) from a package (11) guided by a linear reciprocating guide to lay turns on the bobbin. The bobbin is supported on an arm (27) in a yoke (26) which rocks angularly about pin (25) bolted to a support frame (23). A stepping motor (6), pin (33) and arm (24) are moved to alter the bobbin/roller drive contact line. Sensors (2,4,8) and electronic controller (7) cooperate to give the required bobbin movement to eliminate `ribbing' of the yarn wound onto the bobbin.
