An operating device is proposed for appliances, in particular for transceivers, in which the display device which displays the different functions of the appliance at the same time forms the actuating devices for the different functions. The display unit is a flat, pressure-sensitive display unit (1) which is provided with a matrix-shaped control. The individual functions can be displayed as a function of the control on display areas at various points of the display unit. Furthermore, a control unit (3) having a memory (storage) (4) and a comparing device (5) is provided, the address allocation of the individual functions with respect to the various points or display areas of the display unit being stored in the memory. For actuating and triggering a function pressure is applied to the point of the display unit which is allocated to the function, the respective current-voltage ratio being changed by the change in pressure. The control unit and the comparing device detect at which addresses the changes in pressure have occurred and assign these addresses to the functions, and the control unit transmits a corresponding control signal.
