The drive device for a positioning element (22) e.g. a valve or damper etc. has a motor (1) to actuate the control member (22). The device also has a return spring (8) which is heated by the motor (1) via a gear mechanism (7). The return spring (8) positions the control member (22) in a predetermined position when the current supply to the motor (1) fails. The motor (7) is coupled to the gear (7) via an auxiliary spring (21) which is heated by the motor (1). The auxiliary spring (21) is preferably dimensioned such that a rest moment is overcome by spring rotation moment of tense auxiliary spring. A pick up (4) coupled to the motor (1) may be coupled to a toothed wheel (5) coupled to the gear (7), via the auxiliary spring (25). A free space is enclosed by the relaxed spring . This space is at least partly realised by winding the tensed spring.
