An apparatus made up of one or more sections, each of which is particularly active in reducing one, or a group, of pollutants characteristic of polluted air, is designed and sized in such a way as to be conveniently installed aboard a moving transport means or in a fixed site. The process carried out by said apparatus allows polluted air to be purified of carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, ozone, unburned hydrocarbons, particulate, dust and in general the exhaust fumes from internal combustion engines, with a negligible energy expenditure when compared with the amount of air treated.
