Safety device for circulating elevators for carrying people between floors of multistorey building

The safety device has a mechanism for positioning individual cabins wrt. individual accesses (3). Each access has a light barrier (14) arranged on the building side. A central controller (10) evaluates the signals from positioning devices (17,18) and from the light barriers. When the central controller detects a hazard condition as a result of evaluating the signals it halts the drive motor (23) and elevator (2). The light barriers are multiple beam light grids. Each light barrier is associated with a decentral evaluation device electrically connected to the central controller.
