The invention concerns a filler device for an air bag (2) for collision protection in a motor vehicle. The filler device comprises a gas reservoir (3) connected to the air bag (2) via a filler opening (6). Disposed in the flow path between the filler opening (6) and the gas reservoir (3) is a closure plate (10) which closes a gas outlet opening (8) in the gas reservoir (3) and can be opened by an electric triggering device (20). According to the invention, the closure plate (10) is part of an electric circuit to which the triggering device (20) can apply a current pulse in order to open the closure plate (10). In this way, an air bag can be filled completely in fractions of a second without using explosives and generating hot gases.
