Continuous winding of film web material

For a continuous winding of plastics film webs, where the web is cut across for feeding to a new roller core, a new core is positioned under the web path in a ready position to replace a fully wound-roll. A shell is under the new core, covering at least 45 deg C of its circumference, to give an air flow path from an entry to an outlet under the core. A slit jet at the entry end of the shell gives an air curtain across the web width with a higher flow energy than the air flow through the channel between the shell and core, to generate an underpressure below the film web. When the web is cut laterally, at the new core zone, the underpressure draws the cut end into the channel between the shell and core, to give a winding action round the new core, without an adhesive on the core surface.
