<p>1283948 Pipe couplings AEROQUIP AG 12 Nov 1969 [6 Dec 1968] 55454/69 Heading F2G A quick-release pipe coupling for a tractor and trailer comprises a spigot inserted into a socket and retained by locking detents, the socket consisting of two relatively slidable sections biased alternately to locking and unlocking positions by a Belleville spring. In one form, a two-part socket 14, 15, Fig. 1, held in a support 22 in a tractor, is as shown biased to its locking position by a Belleville spring 31 so that detent balls 17 are held in a groove 16 around a spigot 12. By pulling the spigot 12 rightwards, Fig. 2 (not shown), the inner socket 14 is slidden within the outer socket 15, the Belleville spring 31 goes over-centre to the opposite position from that shown, the detent balls 17 can move radially outwards, and the spigot is released. Valves 27, 28 in the spigot and socket are automatically closed on release of the coupling. Re-engagement is effected by pushing the spigot 12 back into the socket 14, 15, the inner socket 14 sliding within the outer socket 15 and the Belleville spring 31 going over-centre again to the position shown: the valves 27, 28 are automatically reopened. As shown in Fig. 1, the inner socket 14 is attached to a pipe 30. In another form, an outer socket 105, Fig. 3, is attached to a pipe 113. Inner and outer sockets 104, 105 can be relatively slidden from the locked position shown to the unlocked position, Fig. 4 (not shown), against the bias of a Belleville spring 115 to release ball detents holding a spigot 102. An annular differential pressure chamber 121 effects balance of fluid pressure acting axially on the inner socket 104. As before, the coupling is disengaged by pulling the spigot 102, and reengaged by pushing the spigot back into the socket 104, 105. Valves 109, 111 automatically shut when the coupling is released.</p> |
