The microscope has a stereo-endoscopic ancillary system (4) incorporating at least two rigid single segments (5a-5c) which are optically-mechanically coupled together via linkage connections. At least one linkage connection is in the form of a rotary linkage which allows a relative rotation of the individual segments about a defined rotation axis. At least one linkage connection (6a,6b) is operated by means of a motorised drive, which is mounted remotely from the linkage connection. The drive motion is transferred via a flexible shaft.
