METHOD OF MEASURING ELECTROCHEMICAL ACTIVITY

The invention concerns a method of measuring the electrochemical activity of a liquid non-metallic layer lying on a metal melt, the method using a measurement cell with an electrochemical element which has an active part and with a counter-electrode. The invention also concerns the measurement cell used to measure the electrochemical activity. In order to obtain accurate activity measurements with the minimum expenditure, the measurement cell is plunged through the liquid non-metallic layer into the metal melt, the active part of the electrochemical element being surrounded by the material in the liquid non-metallic layer as it passes through this layer, this material being held on the electrochemical element until after the activity has been measured and the measurement being carried out in the metal melt after the electrochemical element has been plunged into the melt. The electrochemical element is specially designed to enable the material whose activity is being measured to adhere to it.
