Longitudinal force is applied from axes passing through holes (34) in the ends of extensions (30,32) of the terminal portions (26,28) of a monolithic piezoelectric resonator which are joined together by parallel beams (24a,24b). The resonator may be cut out of a quartz sheet and the slots sepg. the beams from the extensions may be opened by photolithography. The beams carry electrodes for excitation of vibration in the plane of the larger faces of the resonator and for measuring its frequency. Stumps (36) at the sides of the terminal portions provide symmetry.
