Copolymer prepd. in aq. emulsion, giving a uniform, clear or cloudy soln. in a neutral or alkaline medium, with specific viscosity not above 15, and of formula are used in aq. compsns. as dispersants for mineral fillers and/or pigments, contributing to the water-resistance of dry films, or during the drying of highly charged and/or pigmented aq. compsns.. a = 40-60 and is the wt.% of monomer (A). b = 25-45 and is the wt.% of monomer (B). c = 0-20 and is the wt. % of monomer (C). A = (methacrylic acid; B = styrene or a deriv. e.g.a-methylstyrene or vinyltoluene; C = a 1-4C alkyl (meth)acrylate.
