Fuel-cell arrangement with tubular cell elements

The fuel cell is constructed with a number of tubular fuel elements (1) that are mounted between a pair of current take off plates (2,3) that are of electrically isolating material. The tubes have on the outer surface a cathode (11) and coaxially within this is an anode (13). Between the two is an electrolyte matrix (12). All three elements are cylindrical and are coaxial. Cathode gas (K) flows around the outer cathode surface of the tubes while fuel gas (B) is directed through the tubes and over the anodes.
