An alarm device (1) has a power supply compartment (20) with a chamber (40) which prevents access to long-life Lithium batteries (26). To activate the control circuit, the user presses a push-button (53) which causes a sloping surface (54) to push a sliding switch member (71) to the left. This action is not reversible by virtue of construction of the interface (52) having the push button (53) which covers the switch (70). For de-activation, the user simply cuts an exposed lead (28). Again, this is simple and not reversible. This allows the alarm device to be distributed and stored at a retailer without being activated and therefore prevents nuisance alarms arising before sale. It also maximises the useful life for the user. By allowing de-activation, low-battery sound emissions are avoided at the end of the useful life of the alarm device. <Fig.5> |
