The cycle consists of (1) passing liquid up through the column and introducing the solids from the top. The solids are fluidised on the top plate and when this fluidised bed reaches a certain height, solids introduction is stopped. (2) The liquid flow is halted and the solids settle. (3) Liquid flow is reversed carrying solids down through the column. Step (1) is then repeated. |
