A pouring head is provided for producing a fluid curtain which in free fall drops onto the coating side of the base. The width of the fluid curtain is less than the width of the base. Two curtain holders retain the free falling fluid curtain on the curtain edges. A feeder feeds an auxiliary fluid which supports the moistening of the curtain edges on the curtain holders. A member divides a free stream of a dividing fluid and penetrates the fluid curtain (3) in the direct vicinity of the base (2) and next to each curtain holder (5). It divides the fluid curtain into a free-falling curtain middle part (38) and a free-falling curtain edge (26).
