PURPOSE:To effectively cool a high temperature section and to uniformize a temperature distribution by spraying refrigerant substantially perpendicularly to at least high temperature section of high and low temperature sections of laser active medium excited by an exciting lamp. CONSTITUTION:Injection ports 39A, 39B for spraying refrigerant substantially perpendicularly to at least high temperature section of high and low temperature sections of a laser medium 1 excited by an exciting lamp 4, and refrigerant passages 18A, 18B for feeding the refrigerant from the high temperature section along the low temperature section of the medium 1 are provided. Since the refrigerant is sprayed substantially perpendicularly to the main surfaces 1a, 1b of the medium 1 from the ports 39A, 39B, thermal energy is efficiently moved to cooling gas 16 at the high temperature section heated to the highest temperature to effectively reduce the temperature of the high temperature section. The gas 16 is returned through the passages 18A, 18B to a refrigerant circulator. Thus, the temperature distribution can be substantially uniformized. |
