摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a super high polymeric body excellent in handling properties by carrying out a prepolymerization until the melt viscosity of a prepolymer reaches to a constant value, redispersing the prepolymer in a water-containing organic solvent and carrying out a postpolymerization at a constant temperature in a strong alkaline condition. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing polyarylene sulfide is to react an alkali metal sulfide with a dihaloaromatic compound and obtain the polyarylpne sulfide. A prepolymerization process is proceeded until the melt viscosity of a produced prepolymer reaches 5-300 poise. The prepolymer is redispersed in an aprotic polar solvent containing 5.5-15 mole of water based on 1kg of an organic solvent so that 0.5-3.5 mole of arylene groups based on 1kg of the solvent coexist and a postpolymerization is carried out in a strong alkaline condition (the pH of the reaction solution diluted by 10 times volume of water is >=9.5) by keeping the reaction system at 257-290 deg.C, while agitating at least for 10 min, then descending the temperature of the reaction system, keeping the reaction system at 220-250 deg.C while agitating at least for 2.0hr and, if needed, keeping the reaction system at 250-290 deg.C until a polymer having a specific melt viscosity is produced.
