The head of a polishing machine with oscillating sector carriers comprises a fixed support (8) connected to the machine chassis. A vertical central shaft (1) is connected to a drive through a toothed case (2) freely mounted on the shaft . A casing (9) is fixed by a lower pin carried by the shaft. A kinematic connection joins the central shaft to a toothed wheel (10) freely mounted on the shaft. This toothed wheel meshes with a second toothed wheel (11) which is wedged onto a peripheral vertical shaft (16) supported by the casing. A crown wheel (4) freely mounted on the central shaft has an oval hole (18) for the passage of the peripheral shaft. Several angularly equi-distant satellite gears (6) mesh with the crown wheel. The shafts supported by the casing each carry a corresponding sector carrier (7) provided with an abrasive sector.
