PURPOSE: To obtain isobutylene useful as a raw material for a butyl rubber, etc., from an unused fraction, etc., as raw materials from a petroleum refining plant under mild conditions in high selectivity, by treating a paraffin in the presence of an extremely strong acid and an aromatic compound at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION: (C) A paraffin (e.g. a 4-20C paraffin or an unused fraction containing a paraffin discharged from a petroleum refining plant or a petrochemical plant) is treated in the presence of (A) an extremely strong acid such as trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, etc., and (B) an aromatic compound such as an aroma component in coal or a petroleum heavy component, etc., at 0-120 deg.C to give the objective isobutylene. The amounts of the components A and B used are 1-5 pts.wt. and 0.2-2 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. of the component C, respectively. |
