PURPOSE: To suppress the particle growth of hard particles without adding a particle growth suppressor and to obtain cermet having high hardness and high strength by constituting this cermet of a hard phase consisting of ceramic particles and a bond phase consisting of a superplastic alloy. CONSTITUTION: This superplastic alloy-contg. cermet is obtd. by bonding the hard phase consisting of the ceramic particles with the bond phase consisting of the superplastic allay. The cermet is sinterable at a low temp. and is capable of exhibiting excellent wear resistance and chipping resistance by dispersing the hard particles in a fine state therein without using the particle growth suppressor. The ceramic particles described above are preferably WC having a grain size of <=1μm. The superplastic alloy is preferably an alloy of a superplasticity development temp. of <=1400 deg.C, for example, Co-10Al. This cermet is produced by mixing the ceramic particles and the superplastic alloy powder, putting the mixture into a mold of a prescribed shape and pressurizing the mixture at the superplasticity development temp.
