A device for securing and controlling a child, having a chest harness (1) or the like, and having a chord (4) or the like which is attached to both narrow sides of the chest harness and via which a person guiding the child can regulate the distance of the child and his direction of movement, a single chord (4) being provided which is continuous with the person guiding the child and is attached removably to the chest harness (1) by both its ends.
