PURPOSE: To obtain an endotoxin-free β 1,3-glucan in which the endotoxin is efficiently deactivated with increased safety and is useful as a material for medical purposes by adding an organic solvent containing an acid or base to the β 1,3-glucan. CONSTITUTION: This 1,3-glucan is obtained by treating a 1,3-glucan-containing substance with an organic solvent containing an acid or base such as HCl, H2 SO4 , HNO3 , HClO4 , NaOH, KOH or NH3 , preferably methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, dioxane or acetone containing such an acid or base at a temperature lower than 60 deg.C to reduce the endotoxin down to less than 0.1EU/g. This glucan is used as a main component to give a gel material for medical application. |
