PURPOSE: To efficiently remove an aldehyde from a hydrocarbon gas comprising an olefin as the main component and a trace amt. of the aldehyde by bringing the hydrocarbon gas into contact with an aq. soln. of a specific compd. CONSTITUTION: A hydrocarbon gas (e.g. a mixture of butenes) comprising an olefin as the main component and a trace amt. of an aldehyde (e.g. acetaldehyde), and pref. obtd. through thermal cracking of a hydrocarbon oil (e.g. naphtha) in the presence of steam is brought into contact with an aq. soln. of a hydrazine. Pref. usable examples of the hydrazine include hydrazine itself; methdyl-, ethyl-, hydroxyethyl-, butyl-, phenyl-, and carboxyphenylhydrazines; and hydrochlorides, sulfates, and acetates thereof. The amt. of the hydrazine to be used is pref. 0.1 to 5.0 times by mole as much as that of the aldehyde before the contact treatment. |
